Buy Fresh, Buy Local Nebraska is based on national research and professional materials developed by the FoodRoutes Network. Buy Fresh, Buy Local initiatives have been run by local groups in several states and have had significant success in stimulating the local economy through the promotion of local food sales. In Iowa, 85% of farmer members report sale increases as a result of membership in the Buy Fresh, Buy Local initiative.

In Nebraska, the initiative is a collaborative effort of the Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society, Nebraska Cooperative Development Center and Great Plains Resource, Conservation and Development Area.

This initiative includes media outreach and public events to raise awareness of the benefits of eating locally and the diversity of local food options available.

A cornerstone of the initiative is a beautiful, professionally designed directory with listings of producers, restaurants, stores, farmers markets and institutions that sell locally produced food. The directory is widely distributed throughout the region.

Use the "I Care" card to show your grocery store or resturant that you would like local food.  I Care  card.
