"We are a family farm west of Beatrice. We grow fresh vegetables, fruits, berries, herbs, and flowers without the use of synthetic pesticides. We also sell eggs, honey, jam, and baked goods."
Katie Jantzen of West End Farm in Plymouth, Nebraska provides southeast Nebraska with high quality, fresh foods. Over 50 types of vegetables, herbs, and fruits are grown at West End Farm. Market shoppers and CSA members love that diversity. Strawberries, head lettuce, garlic, greens, onions, beets, variety packs of cherry tomatoes, and melons are just a FEW of the treats that fill the farmers market stand and CSA boxes every week. West End Farm also preserves the harvest by making jams like strawberry and triple berry. Katie also makes and sells granola in a variety of flavors--using strawberries, rhubarb, and honey straight from the farm!
In addition to their farmers market stall and online ordering, West End Farm runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Think of a CSA as a farm-fresh produce subscription--members pay an upfront sum in the spring, and in return receive a box or "share" of farm products throughout the growing season May to November. The CSA program benefits the farmer by providing cash to buy seeds and supplies in a lean time for farms (winter or early spring). It also benefits consumers by taking some of the energy out of finding local, healthy food. You sign up for a share, and pick up a curated box full of delicious, seasonal produce--all you have to do is prepare it! CSA programs offer community! West End Farm's CSA subscribers get to know the farm, the farmer, and each other during the growing season at box pickup, farm tours, and online. Often produce farmers are great cooks and have many ideas about how to enjoy the produce they grow. West End Farm shares tons of great recipes, tips and tricks, and storage recommendations with its CSA members.
